MINI-INSTRUCTIONAL:
north south choke transition from the omoplata attempt
Countering the opponent’s predicted reaction to an omoplata, allow the opponent to “Front Roll”. While he is attempting to “Roll Through” the submission secure your opponents to the mat by reaching your arm across his upper body.
Opponent’s arm should remain “Figure Foured” until position is established. Sprawling onto Opponents head creates enough space to free their trapped hand and continue transitioning into the North South position. Once in N/S clear opponents arm, and begin to walk weight back.
Choke will be secured once weight is brought from the “shoulder to the wrist”. Extra attention to the placement of the hips is needed when finishing this move. Make sure weight is sprawled squarely onto the mat. If hips are facing to either side opponent can turn chin to the side and drive to their knees for a counter.
